How we review insurance companies

The same questions, answered the same way, for every insurer.

The questions we answer for every insurer

  1. Who can buy it. Membership rules, faith requirements, employment requirements and ages, quoted from the insurer where possible.
  2. What it sells. The life insurance products on offer, such as term, whole life, universal life and final expense.
  3. How you buy. Through the insurer's own representatives, through an employer or church plan, or through independent agents.
  4. Financial strength. The rating from AM Best or another named agency, with the date we checked it.
  5. What membership includes. For fraternal societies, the member benefits, dues and charitable programs.
  6. Who should look elsewhere. The people the insurer cannot serve, and the alternatives open to them.

No star ratings

We do not give insurers stars or scores. A single number hides the thing that matters most, which is whether an insurer fits your situation. A fraternal society can be an excellent choice for a member and simply unavailable to everyone else.

Insurers we sell and insurers we do not

Every review states whether Christian Protection is appointed to sell that insurer's policies. Reviews of insurers we do not sell are written to help you compare, and they say what those insurers do well. See the companies we work with.

Keeping reviews current

Each review shows the date it was last reviewed. We recheck eligibility rules and ratings at least once a year and whenever an insurer announces a change.
